Such
Nafs should [only] be given the power of Laa Yamutu (immortality)
by engaging it in the Zikr of Allah HADIS (Saying of the
Holy Prophet of Allah Die-before-Death What
is Nafs? Nafs is like a healthy and sturdy boar, who (keeps in
it) the disgrace of egotism with the People of Kuffaar. [O Seeker!
Carefully] listen! BAYT (COUPLET) There are hundreds of boars inside the body of man, This boar either should be killed or should be shackled. [Many
states arise in this Nafs]. Sometimes it becomes a means of approach
between man and God. O
Nafs! May God tackle you! Ah! At times, this Nafs becomes mischievous
filled with desires and at times it becomes a just king. Sometimes it
becomes an egotistic aberrant, sometimes Aalim and sometimes Mutallam
(pupil). Sometimes a Mufti (Islamic Scholar) and sometimes a Qazi
(Judge), sometimes becomes Muhtasib (officer in Hisba) and sometimes
the Master of Hisaab (account), sometimes briber and sometimes bad
usurer, sometimes a Murshid and guide the Master
of Irshaad , sometimes selfish and sometimes the Master of
outcry against lust and greed. Moreover, sometimes this Nafs gets
himself known with the titles of Sultan-ul-Arifeen and Aashiq and
Mashooq (beloved) and sometimes teaches to beg at every door as mendicant.
Sometimes it tempts the creatures. [In short, Nafs keeps on changing
shades of many colors, therefore,] Faqeer Mard is him, who spares not Nafs
in any condition lest it should stop Obedience and that, which the Nafs
demands, he should not grant it that and should always keep on doing opposite to
