That person, who is under the Coercion (Qehar) of Lord, becomes worshipper of Nafs , lecher, follower of desire, worshipper of Dunya (World), worshipper of (physical) beauty, adorer of glitter and the cohort of Satan. [All the time,] his soul remains soaked in the desires of Nafs and sin and wrongdoing; his heart becomes black and parted from the Ishq and Muhabbat and the Anwaar of Lord; and his heart, like a dead body inside grave, remains blind and dull for Marifat.

Allah Almighty says: Your wealth and children are only a temptation. (64:15)

Which thing is called Nafs? [Nafs is that thing] which bars from the Course of God and invites unto the Outsiders of Allah. [Hence] Dunya (World), Nafs and Satan are enemies of us and brigand is Satan and which Devil is the brigand of Satan? It is vanity and superciliousness. And from where does the vanity originate? It originates from the Jalaal of Coercion of Lord invited by mischief. And the Noble Prophet of Allah Hazrat Muhammad Sal Allahu Alaihe Wa Aa-lehee Wa-sallam is our guide. And who is the guide of the his highness? His guide is the Hidayat of Allah. And from where does the Hidayat of Allah take birth? It takes birth from the good by the affection and Jamaal of Lord. That is why the Holy Prophet of Allah Hazrat Muhammad Sal Allahu Alaihe Wa Aa-lehee Wa-sallam has said that: Both the evil and good are from Allah Almighty [that is, He is their Creator and He will take the good and evil into Account]

BAYT (COUPLET)

I turn this mire to human being and transform that fire into Satan,

I do this, I do that, and none will ever be able to know this.

Thus, devoutness and pietism, Riyazat , Fasting and Assalaat (Prayers), Hajj (Muslim Pilgrimage) and Zakaat (due on possessions) are [actions in] opposition to the Nafs. Does Nafs die by them? I would say "No!" Moreover, Zikr , Fikr , Mujahida , Mushahida , Muraqiba , Muhaasba and Wisaal Hazoor Mazkoor are in animosity against Nafs. Does the Nafs die by them? I would say "No!" In addition, Wird , Wazaaif , hymn, recitation of the Holy Quran and unfolding the issues (concepts) pertaining to principles of Fiqah are also in animosity against Nafs. Does the Nafs die through these? I would say "No!"
