By which action will it be possible to forsake the Nafs?

It is possible only if you stay Drowned in Tauheed , day and night.

This has also been said about Aashiq :

HADIS-E-QUDSI

(Saying of Allah reported by the Holy Prophet of Allah Hazrat Muhammad Sal Allahu Alaihe Wa Aa-lehee Wa-sallam)

He, who demanded Me, found Me; and he, who found Me, got My Marifat; and he, who got My Marifat, fell in My Love; and he, who falls in My Love, becomes My Aashiq . I kill him. And he, whom I kill, compensation for his blood becomes My obligation. And I pay this blood-money in this way that I give Myself to him.

There are some kinds of the Aashiq . First kind is the Aashiq Nazzaar Musharraf Didaar (the Lover with honor of seeing the Spectacle of Didaar). Except Allah Almighty, both the world and the Hereafter are inferior and despised in his sight.

Allah Almighty says: The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold (53:17)

Second kind of Aashiq is Aashiq Hoshiyar (Conscientious (and Observant). Third kind of Aashiq is Aashiq Deeda e Baidaar (Lover with wakeful (and enlightened) eye) and the Master-of-Tawajuh Parda Bardaar. Fourth kind is Aashiq Jaan Fida Bay Ikhtiyar (the Lover with passion to sacrifice his life involuntarily). Fifth kind is the Aashiq the Master of Perpetual Eagerness. Farewell to the desires of Nafs is the Price of Ishq for the Aashiq.

ABYAAT (COUPLETS)

Didaar of God has become "compensation for blood" for me,

And I have availed myself the Liqaa of Allah as blood-money,

Now I see without physical eyes and my tongue is speechless,

Such becomes the condition of the Aashiqeen in this world,
